EcoHeroes Africa – African Youth Food Security and Climate Change Update

EcoHeroes Africa – African Youth Food Security and Climate Change Update

      This year, we launched the first edition of the EcoHeroes African Project – Our Africa Youth Food Security and Climate Change Ambassador Program. We received more than 1200 applications from young people across Africa who are actively engaged or are passionate about fighting against climate change and food security.
Africa is a region with the greatest risk of increased hunger and threatened livelihoods due to climate change and the continent with the most youthful population in the world. It is, therefore, primordial to involve young people in the battle for their future.
For the 2021/2022 cohort that will run from September 2021 to September 2022, AYOA will work with 500 selected Ambassadors to set up 100 school gardens, Plant one million fruit trees, and train 100youths in social entrepreneurship and other skill development programs. The ambassadors will also benefit from our coaching and mentorship programs and will have the opportunity to attend our annual Youth Sustainable Development, Climate Change, and Food Security Submit.
In this year’s application pool, we received applications from 51African countries, with most applications from young people in these countries;
Nigeria
Kenya
Uganda
Tanzania
Cameroon.
57% of the applicants identified themselves as males, 63% are already working on climate change and food security-related projects and  37 – 26 was the most active age group.
We are honored to launch such an impactful project that addresses a pressing global challenge and are working to support ambassadors to make impactful change in their communities.
Immerse Thank you to every individual and organization that shared our call for applications.
